Hakonechloa macra 'Albo-striata'

White-striped hakone grass

A low-growing ornamental grass with drooping, bamboo-like leaves.  This 'Albo-striata' variety has green leaves with a white stripe down the middle. It is shade-tolerant, but does not seem to require as much shade as the 'Aurea' variety.  It also grows much faster than 'Aurea'.

This is a very easy and rewarding grass. A few plants placed in a row will readily spread into a thick border within a few years.  Like most grasses, the brown winter foliage should be cut back to the ground in late winter to make way for new growth in the spring.
